Grant Making of the L-A-D Foundation

Since 1962, the Ozark Natural Resources and L-A-D foundations have awarded more than $340,000 in grants to more than 75 non-profit, research, and public interest organizations. In 2008, the two foundations merged as the L-A-D Foundation, owner of the 140,000 acre Pioneer Forest.

The L-A-D Foundation seeks innovative projects that may include environmental and conservation education, grassroots organizing, and research. We are also interested in program and project-related grants, capitol support, seed money, and workshops. No requests for annual or operating support or support for social events or benefits are considered. Typically grants do not exceed $5,000 for any single year; a 12-month grant period is preferred, but multi-year projects may be considered for additional funding. Applicants should have 501 ( c ) 3 tax exempt status or the equivalent.

Each year letters of inquiry are solicited from past recipients and from a large number of other organizations with an interest in the Missouri Ozark region. We are always appreciative of requests of this nature from any organization. Letters should not exceed two pages and should contain the following information: a description of the organization's background and experience, a brief project description and goals, the amount of the request, and how the grant will be used. Generally, the deadline for these letters is sometime during the month of May each year. Preliminary applications are reviewed, and those organizations with project ideas of most interest are then asked to submit a more detailed proposal. Final grants are awarded near the end of each calendar year.
